Dear Viewer,

I was asked to write a biography about me so you can know a little bit about me. This was very difficult because speaking about myself in the third person was weird, and talking about my achievements felt like bragging. I wrote this letter instead.

My name is Lydia Selk. I was born and have always lived here in Puyallup. My husband and I have been together for over twenty years and we live with three cats and a turtle. My family was always supportive and nurtured my creative spirit in many ways. When asked as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up my answer was always the same, I wanted to be an artist. When I turned 40 years old the opportunity to go to college was an option, and I asked myself what I wanted to study. The answer was art.

My journey in the world of art has been rewarding. Photographs I took are book covers for the author Anne Leigh Parrish, which is such an honor because I totally judge books by their cover. I entered the Pierce College Art Show and won one of the four awards for one of my collage pieces. I also received an award for academic excellence in the Art Department at Pierce College. This is how I was chosen to show here.
