Artist Statement:
The Original of "The Night Watchman" is created in stone. The natural shape of the stone and color dictates what the subject will be. The beautiful black (limestoe) depicts a stylized Owl perched on a (pipestone) fencepost, on alert, watching its surroundings.
The skin of the stone is left to indicate the wing, while reminding the viewer what the stone looked like before carving it. Most of my sculptures, created in several mediums usually depict an animal or a plant form. I am inspired by all things in nature. the shapes of plants, the foliage, the curves, the blossoms, the seed pods. I try to capture "the essence" of animals not putting in every detail. Often, with a whimsical twist.
