Biography
I have always enjoyed art of all kinds, but I began sculpting stone nine years ago. Now I am sure that sculpting is my intended career. I have sold some smaller pieces, but have started focusing on larger sculpture for various cities.
Being able to display three dimensions instead of two, using both power and hand tools, chipping away the sone to reveal the sculpture within, and feeling the stone after ours of polishing and detail work is both satisfying and inspiring. I rarely finish one piece without having visions of the next one I will create.
My basalt sculptures have mostly been realistic images of salmon, combining my love of art with my passion for fishing and nature. Growing up on the Olympic Peninsula, between the mountains and the ocean and amid forest and stream, wildlife has always been an important part of my family's life, and my art reflects that.
